THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

The Killers will be headlining this year's Glastonbury festival, Q can exclusively reveal. They join the Arctic Monkeys and The Who as the Main Stage headliners.

"We're really chuffed that we've got The Killers," Emily Eavis tells Q. "They broke through on the New Band stage in 2004 and came back the following year on the Main Stage, so they've come up through the festival. They're the right band to headline this year's festival."

The Who's guitarist Pete Townshend confirmed that the veteran British band will be playing their first Glastonbury this year. They close the festival on Sunday night.

"This chapter of the band is over in July 2007, so if you want to catch the new Who at their most effective for 20 years, come and join us," says Townshend.

In addition to Björk's headlining appearance on The Other Stage, also strongly rumoured to be performing at this year's festival are: Lily Allen, Arcade Fire, Babyshambles, Bloc Party, The Chemical Brothers, the reformed Creedence Clearwater Revival, Daft Punk, Editors, The Fratellis, Happy Mondays, Hot Chip, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, The Klaxons, The Kooks, Larrikin Love, The Magic Numbers, Paolo Nutini, Scissor Sisters, Super Furry Animals, The Twang and The View.

As always, the full OFFICIAL Glastonbury line-up will be revealed by Q on 1 June.

they haven't been around long enough to be worthy of a headlining spot!

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

Hmm, I saw The Killers at The Big Day Out in Auckland a few weeks ago and they were decidedly average. I'm a fan of their music but as far as stage presence goes, they dont have much. They weren't a patch on Muse, who played directly after at that event.

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

Babyshambles?!? I watched that trainwreck at glasto 2005 and they were absolute shit, I mean they can't even play for f@$k sakes, and it pissed me off that such a good slot wasn't given to a more deserving and less hyped band. Give them 11am Saturday, it's all they're worth.

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

Babyshambles are superb when they're on form.

I saw them again at Benicassim last year, and they were very good, especially when Shane McGowan came on to duet the Irish classic 'Dirty Old Town'

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

could they find a more boring headliner than the killers!? may as well go all out and book the stereophonics. bjork should be on the main stage and not have to suffer the dodgy sound over on the other stage.

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

Killers have a few good hits, but I'm not sure if they have enough songs to cover a headline set? maybe an early evening slot at best. I don't think they'll blow people away like a truly world class act could.

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

The Killers are the perfect band to headline. They are huge right now and I couldn't think of anyone else who would be a better fit. Bravo!

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

I recently saw the Killers in Manchester and if that concert is any indication of the Killers worthiness, then anyone attending Glastonbury should be dazzled. They were incredible. Also, remember that it was the Killers who were asked to step up and replace the ailing Kylie Minogue as headliner last year with only Hot Fuss under their belts. With Sam's Town, expect a grand performance.

Just wondering..is there any tiny-tiny chance that Radiohead or Rolling Stones will be headliners?..

Re:

...no, the headliners have been announced! Killers, Monkeys and The 'Oo. Unless Thom Yorke's going to play the Jazz World stage*, of course... he's a wacky guy.

*this isn't likely to happen

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

Bjork is fantastic. Her videos are really arty and not sex-to-sell setting her apart from other shitty pop music. She's brilliant, and definitely deserves the pyramid instead of the abomination that are the 'killers' (it's even a shit name for a band)

Re: THE KILLERS NAMED AS GLASTONBURY HEADLINERS

With Coldplay headlining at last Glastonbury I guess they have got a lot to live up to but they do have their new album out which grows on you. If the music is average on the night the crowd can still make it a fantastic experience and just go mad, whether the music is awful or amazing if the crowd gets going then the atmosphere can make it and if you really don't them then just go and look around or see someone else.
Apparently Snow Patrol aren't playing this time? :[
