GLASTONBURY TICKETS: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

With the sale of returned coach packages yesterday (26 April), the very last set of Glastonbury tickets have been allocated to lucky festival-goers. And, in the eyes of the organisers, the whole process went swimmingly. This year’s on sale saw the introduction of a registration process, where anyone who wanted to buy tickets had to sign-up in advance. "It’s a great system,” says Michael Eavis. "It's the first time it's ever been done - it's just gone so well it's just unbelievable."

Certainly, giving eBay a cursory glance (gives eBay a cursory glance), the registration process has deterred the touts, with only a few desperate types offering competition vouchers, as if that was some kind of guarantee that you’d be lounging at Worthy Farm this June.

So, the registration seems to be a success. Emily Eavis told 6Music that Glastonbury had shown other ticket agencies how it should be done. "I really hope other promoters follow the lead really," she said. "There's nothing much in it for the promoters, because a lot of people think 'Well if we sell out, it doesn't really matter if it sells to touts.' But we really feel quite strongly that people are being ripped off, and we want to stop that."

While the actual on-sale avoided the complete internet meltdown that’s been the hallmark of previous years, inevitably there were some disappointed festival fans who didn’t end up with a pair of golden tickets in their sweaty palms. "Only two in three get through, but such is the demand of the festival," says Eavis Snr. "But that is in itself great after 37 years of trying to get it right."

But is that your last chance to get to go to Glastonbury 2007? Oh no, it certainly isn’t. Keep checking back to www.Q4music.com next week for info on MORE chances to blag your way to the greatest festival in the world…

How did you get on with buying Glastonbury tickets this year? Was the registration process easy? And what were your experiences of buying online? What would you do to improve it next year? Tell us what you think. Post a comment below.

I think the system was good this year but it was let down by a few problems and both the internet and phone network not being able to handle the demand.

It was also a big mistake not kicking people off the website once they had bought one set of tickets.

It was also frustrating having to wait over an hour at each sale to find out that all the tickets had been sold.

Re: GLASTONBURY TICKETS: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

Speaking as someone who failed to get a ticket and has suffered immense frustration, only alleviated by the offer of some work as a litter picker, my message to the Eavis family is - don't extend the registration deadline next year! Why on earth did you allow more people to register for Glastonbury in March when you'd made it clear that registration was for the month of February only?
You were already over-subscribed! Don't be greedy!

A terrible experience. I tried to connect to the website with no luck for at least three hours. The phone was not much better either. Very frustrating and annoying. I went in 2005 and had a blast. Maybe next year I'll get lucky!

I was unable to get tickets this year, would it not be fairer if the people that registered this year and were unable to get tickets were put on a data base and get first choice next year

Re: GLASTONBURY TICKETS: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

So how do you manage to get Glasto tickets ever!! Have been going with my kids since my son was born (he is now 20)having always lived in Somerset. Getting tickets then was never a prob. Since moving to Dorset 5 years ago have never been able to go. Sites crashing before tickets going on sale and phone lines perm. engaged. PLEASE let us know what we have to do? We are now 50 somethings and have resigned ourselves that our Glasto days are well and truly over.

Re: GLASTONBURY TICKETS: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

It's good to know no touts are out there this year ripping people off -the system almost worked -just need to sort out the glitch that allowed the lucky ones who got through to the site to remain there - blocking the chances for everyone else!

Re: GLASTONBURY TICKETS: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

Massively frustrating all round; the extension of the registration period by a week when numbers were already more than double the number of available tickets (what were they playing at? trying to ensure there would be even more disappointed people not able to get tickets? at least touts don't change the rules half way through), trying to get through on the phone for 8 hours before finally connecting and being told tickets had all sold out in 90 mins (didn't have comp at home so was on the phone) and then a similar experience on the resale day.

Re: GLASTONBURY TICKETS: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

I think this year was very frutrating. It also discriminated against people who may be on low incomes and cant afford a computer or the cost of being on line for that length of tim. AS a local living only 1o miles from Glastonbury I failed to get tickets on the first trawl and when I rang for a local ticket was told my village was not on the "local" list but Warminster in Dorset was, I wrote to Micheal eavis and got a ltter back from the Glastonbury festival office to say Warminster was definately not on the list. Sounds to me like the left hand doesnt know wat the right hand is doing. I also spoke to a local girl who asked for four local tickets and they asked her adress which was in Street but didnt want wat to know the address of the other three. How is that fair?

I would suggest the ystem works for stopping the touts - which is good - but it doesput some people at a distinct diadvantage at the start.

Why not get people to register - this process was fine and draw tickets on a lttery type basis - that way evryone has an equal chance of getting a tket and doesnt cost them a fortne doing it.

Re: GLASTONBURY TICKETS: HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

Tried, tried and tried to get tickets but to no avail. Extremely disappointed. On line for 5 hours on first release only to find tickets had been sold out for ages. Worked out I made 600 calls on 2nd relaease, again sold out. Liked the idea of registering and keeoing touts out of business - PLEASE LET ME BE ONE OF THE LUCKLY ONES NEXT YEAR!
