REGISTRATION "BEAT TOUTS", SAYS EAVIS

The new ticket registration system for Glastonbury 2007 has been effective in bypassing ticket touts, say organisers. Michael Eavis claims that having festival-goers pre-register with their personal details and a photograph before the official on-sale last Sunday (1 April) has stopped tickets appearing through auction sites such as eBay. "I'm absolutely thrilled," Eavis told BBC News. "It seems to be a 100% success. Two to three years after we started trying to get rid of touts, we've achieved it. And people will be able to keep their tickets for ever and ever because we won't need to tear them in half any more. It'll be a great keepsake."

The 137,500 tickets sold out in just under 90 minutes, which Eavis claims is the fastest time ever. Further tickets will go on sale on 22 April. For more info, click here.

Re: REGISTRATION

I applaud Michael Eavis and his efforts to eliminate touting of tickets. I just wish more agencies etc would follow his lead. It has got out of control now in this country and needs stamping out!

Re: REGISTRATION

When I first went to Glasto in 1999 I bought my ticket a month after they went on sale. I blame Ebay for creating this hysteria which now seems to come when any tickets go on sale!

Re: REGISTRATION

I'm really happy that the new system of registration worked. i registered and unfortunately had no luck. hope i am lucky on the 22nd April. there is always next year. ican't help but think though that there must have been people choking up the phone line and internet site that had not registered.

Re: REGISTRATION

i'm really happy as we got our tickets at just the last minute, and have to go on the coach for the first time as usually we take the car, we're really excited about it as it'll be a good laugh and worry free.
my only complaint or question is that it seems to matter where you live in connection to where the operators are situated, as the further away you live the more connections you have to go through to get to the main operator and therefore reduces your chances of getting a ticket.
as reading nme this week they all managed to get their tickets in the office?? now maybe this is not true and just a story to fill a page. but is there anyway of having more operators spread around the country to make it more fair? i appreciate that every year michael is trying all ways but maybe this could be something worth looking into as someone rang radio one and had got through twice so is that just very very good luck or his location jane wales
p.s good luck everyone on the 22nd

Re: REGISTRATION

I don't get this idea of a 'real life queing sytem' I for one have to work and so can't take time of to travel to
pilton and que, and I don't think the villagers would like it much. See tickets are a bit rubbish at everything but I doubt there are many sites that could cope with 450,000 people all hitting 'refresh' at the same time!

Re: REGISTRATION

I don't understand why the pre-registration was extended when it was already oversubscibed. I registered in time, didn't get a ticket and it feels like Mr Eavis was just trying to grab some 'Big Number' headlines. I'm also struggling to understad why anyone connected on the phone could buy as many tickets as they liked as long as they used different addresses.

Re: REGISTRATION

It didn't really need a month to decide whether you wanted to register or not. I am sure that the people that really wanted to attend were registered in the first few days.

Re: TICKET GRIEF

We've had really grotty treatment from Seetickets.com who are handling the coach tickets we bought - they're also mentioned in the Data Proection email issue in April. They were rude and dismissive on the phone when I tried to sort out an issue about our ticket. They obviously think customer relations don't matter when the ticket supply is so exceeded by customer demand - but they've lost a few customers for life in the process. I would have advised them to wake up and smell the Fair Trade coffee but I'd guess the robots I spoke to definitely drink *bucks ! ;)

RE: ticket IDs... surely the fact that the tickets would have had our pictures printed on should do the job - they should be useless to anyone else, unless festival staff won't be checking photos on the gate properly - which would instantly make the new ticketing system pointless anyway. Photo ID is good enough for many government organisations! And let's face it, we are talking about a festival ticket, not immigration documentation...
