As cars wait to be hauled out of the quagmire and the long wait to get offsite, the rain finally stops and the sun comes out. Why do you mock us this way, O Lord?
One of the Q crew took 21 hours to get home after leaving on Sunday night - they were heading for London and got lost in Oxford.

Re: getting home
We arrived at west 22 carpark at 9.30am and finnaly leff the car park and got on to the track and 8.04pm. It then took another 40 minutes to get of the site. We travveled back to darlington and got home and 2am. It was a nightmare and ended our wonderful week badly. And if one more person had sounded there horn i was ready to scream.

Re: getting home
we had to be in the coach park for 8.30am monday to be pikced up at 9am. our coach turned up at 11am and we finally got on the bus at 11.30am after stanbding in the rainy storm from 8.30am with no shelter, badly organised even tho i absolutely loved the festival. def should have been sum shelter or more turnstills for coach ppl p. s stewards were useless

Re: Re: getting home
did grave yard shift on red bus station sun night in appaling conditions we stood out in driving rain till 3.30 then took it in turns to man the exit from gate a. by now thermal sheets were being handed out. everyone stuck to their job with asmile cant thank them all enough!! one person was taken away with hypothermia, so to say they was useless is a bit strong, they are volunteers after all and for a lot of them this was their first glasto, under tough circumstances they did a good job!

Re: getting home
yep, 12 hours for me just to get to the main road. ok, fine, but with no food, no water and no loos and no idea of how long it was going to take. the only organisation was by people getting out their cars to volunteer to bring some kind of order to the chaos. the whole thing was not really on, it was obvious cars were going to get stuck.

Getting away
Sorry guys but you have to make the effort... my mate and I got up at 5am, decamped, were in the car by 5.40am and heading out of the car park by 6.00. We stopped for a coffee on route and were back in Nottingham by 10.30am. It's the only way to do it but don't tell everyone or they'll all be at it. :-)

Re: Getting away
you think you're clever but I tried the same, got stuck in mud & there was nobody to help push my car out until it got busy so I then had to join the q, I was at my car at 6.30 n took 14 hrs to get out

Re: Getting Away
Us too!!! We left straight after the Who, got back to the car after packing up and trudging through the sludge and were back at the car by about 1.30am. Didn't actually leave the site till around 5.30am because of people stuck in the mud ( including us ) and severe lack of exit signs and stewards. The only person helping was a local farmer, who'd been up since 6am the previous morning, pushing and pulling people out of the mud. He was an absolute star. Brilliant festival let down by bad weather ( it's Glastonbury, you expect it) and diabolical lack of stewards and signage when leaving.

Re: Re: Getting Away
stewarded the bus station all night got soaked, all of us! felt very sorry for those who where catching the coach at all obscure hours in lashing rain and wading thru what was quickly becoming a lake! got back to tent at 6.30ish had nap, left bout 2 took 10 mins to get on to lane headed for a37 and 303 back home in cornwall at 6, no complaints!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but definately the worse conditions ever for the fest!

We got up around 10, went and got a breakfast roll, packed up and joined the q, on train for 3pm and home by 6.30pm. Albeit a long wait in rain and mud didn't think too bad considering circumstances!!!!!

We got up with the sun and got up to the car park at about 5.00, not a soul about, drove through to the exit staying off the beat track as much as possible and just cutting across the bits of the fields that didn't look boggy. Was back in Oxford by 7.30!
It was clear by the time we left it was going to get messy! Loads of people getting stuck when we drove out, but jusy silly people revving this cars has hard as they could in 1st gear and digging futher in.
Has no one ever driven in snow before!?

I don't want to brag, but I managed to get back to Manchester in 7 hours, even though we were on the combined coach tickets. We did get on the 8 o'clock coach even though we were booked on the 9 o'clock coach and we had to tell our driver the way to go as he was a bit usless with a map.

Waiting for coaches
Our coach was supposed to pick us up at 9am on Monday, we waited ankle deep in mud for almost 3 hours, the coach was announced 3 times, but couldn;t get through the crowd\security. The whole thing was badly managed, i'm surpirised no one went into shock stood in those conditions for so long. Tickets weren't checked when getting on buses, it took 2 and a half hours just to get onto the M5.

Re:
National Express need shooting. Everyone going to London had booked times and many, including us, had connections to make only to be told by some jobsworth woman that its first come first served. We got into London 3 hours late and missed our connection and were put on a coach to Derby, not Leeds, followed by a taxi. We got into Leeds at 2am instead of 10pm. Absolute farce. I don't blame Glastonbury for this, its all down to national express. I would advise no-one to use them next year at all.

Re: Coach Tickets
Our coach never tured up! we should have been on the road by 9:30am, didn't leave the site until after 14:00, where we had to go completly out of our way and pay an extra £30 each to get the train home. After standing in the cold rain for over 5 hours i now have a cold and painfully bad back ache! so unorganised, kinda puts a bad end to a wicked weekend!

Re: coaches
We were lucky, we had taken down two tents during the day and left one up for our children to sleep in until our coach journey at 3.00am. We did a couple of luggage runs and then woke the children. it was so difficult because of the rain but we managed to get on our coach in good time. The only prob was we were very wet and the driver decided to keep the air con on and leave his window down for the whole journey back to Portsmouth!! Totally freezing and of course nothing to change into as everything was wet and muddy. If we had more caring people working ofr the general sector we would all be alot more satisfied!!
Thanks to the festival I now have two very appreciative children. My 3 year old and 8 year old can't wait to go again!

I got a coach from Bath and the bus driver thought we were going to Wilton! Half the buses hadn't even been booked. Got a lift with some friends on the way back. Left at about 4.00. Wasn't too bad. Getting back to to the car was the worst part of Glasto. Reckon I lost half a stone! Got to the car and drove like a rally car racer in a Seat Ibiza. Nearly crashed into a flood lit light, was so much fun. Had such a wicked time and it sucks that we're all back in reality again. Bring on next year!

It was not the end to the weekend we wanted but people kept their spirits high. Our friends made it back to Southampton by 1.30pm so I guess it depends on where you parked!

I had to walk my wife back to her car on the sunday morning. After seeing the state of the car parks and the lack of stewards and exit signs I decided to leave @ 9pm.
This was the fault of GFL people were driving around the carparks churning up the soil and mud just trying to find the exit. It was a farce as was the ticketing of the event. My ticket was sent to someone up north who kindly sent it on to me on the Tuesday morning before. seetickts and GFL have alot to answer for

We were in car ready to leave at 8am, in West 22. There we sat for a further 8 hours unable to move as nothing ahead of us was moving, at all.
No toilets, no stewards but lots of mud.
Ended up pushing our cars up to the top section of West 22 and leaving about an hour later. Further 6 hours to get back to London.
What a joke, a bit of planning would of been nice.
I totally blame the festival organisers for this mess.

We thought we'd be clever and leave early. Was going to be 5 but ended up being 6. We were stuck in the car park for 5 hours and then stuck on the A303 before going another way. All in all - 13hrs just to get to london. Lesson to be learnt, you can't get the entire of glastos cars out of one exit that has traffic lights. More exits please!!

Left east 10 car park/Gate C at 12 midnight as the who were finishing. We had a 4x4 so cruised straight through the mud and queued for about 1/2 hour in the local roads - in the shower and then bed by 1.30!!!!!!
An endurance event but id do it again tomorrow.

Re: leaving east 3
we left the site at 6pm, as did our friends who were parked in west car parks.
The car was flooded and after finally getting in the car i had to do some pretty tidy stunt driving to get up the hill i had had to park at the bottom of.
Finally got to the track but got stuck in mud, thankfully there was a guy and a woman in a landrover who pulled us out (for a tenner!). Thanks to the guy who tried to help us push it out but to no avail.
We then sat there and got more miserable by the hour as our friends rang to tell us regularly of their flying progress up the m5/m6 after driving straight off site. We finally made it home around 2ish which wasn't to bad and the shower was the best all year, same as it always is.
Why no temp track through the east car parks? everyone got stuck in the same place and just the general helpfulness of other glastoers got everyone out.
Still, no doubt i'll be back next year.
Dear Lord may we have sunshine at glastnbury for just one year before age catches up with me....

We packed our tent and took everything to the Car on Sunday morning. We left the Pyramid stage at the End of The Who and headed straight for the Car. We got in the car just after 12 and drove striaght out of car park W24 within minutes. It took about half hour to get to Bristol and i was back in Kettering, Northants by half 3, having stopped at a services for about 10 minutes. Hopped in the shower and in bed by 4am which is probably earlier than most people were at Glasto on Sunday night.

With all the money made from the festival you would have thought that some could have been invested in the dirt tracks out of the carpark perhaps being made out of metal gridding?....having been soaked and cold all w/e the last thing anyone needed was the joke that was the exiting of the fields on Monday........there is never a good time to have to push your car out of a muddy field after all.......

We got the 2am bus (which was about 30min late) after the Chem Bros gig then slept it off all the way to Earl's Crt. Was surprisingly painless - until the Black Cab wouldn't let us in because we were covered in mud. Fair call. I found nirvana when I jumped under the hot shower and onto a dry bed....

Well, we got back to Cambridge in a little over 3 hours. Would have been a little under, were it not for the Police insisting we had to turn right out of the gate, so had to make a little detour via Castle Cary.
How did we do it? Left on Sunday just as The Who were starting. We heard the old dad rock dinosaurs wheezing their way through their set as we yomped back to the car, and drove all the way to the gate without seeing barely another moving car.
Result!

Re: Camper vans etc.
The tractor driver who towed everyone off the East 16 carpark deserves an OBE. His task was made really difficult by those who thought they could get off without his help. I was 8th in the queue at 10.30pm Sunday and it took almost 3 and a half hours to get a tow mainly due to those blocking his route with their clever antics! He was a hero

I made the mistake of forgetting what carpark i was in- I got back to the general area i was parked and realised I had 5 fields to search- took 5 hours to find the car, with no food or water all day. Then when I finally got to the car drove 3 feet and got stuck in the mud, had to pay a tractor a tenner to get me out. Left the gate at midday got home to my house three hours away at midnight... The only plus side was didn't have to queue long as so many had gone by that point!

Busses to Temple Meads
We got up at 6am and were in the queue for the shuttle bus from 7am. Stood for 3 hours in the pouring rain and mud with our backpacks on. It was a free for all getting onto the bus and I didnt make it on 3 of them as I wasnt big enough or strong enough to push past those who came from the back. The stewards were awful, no control, no information and no queueing system. To top it all off the oxfam steward coaches to temple meads were leaving not even half full!!! That cant be right!

Re: gettin off the site
got to the West 24 car park at around 11.30am, moved around 10 feet in the queue in about 5 hours due to people cutting in at the front. Eventually some stewards hepled with traffic control and the queue started moving and we got out after 6 hours. no-one that I saw needed to be towed out. we were made to turn left at the main road and eventually got back to Marlow at about 8.40pm. Just glad we didn't get stuck. :)

We left after Chemical Brothers - took 3 hours to get off site, 30 minutes to get to the M5 then had an anaphylatic reaction to a cereal bar whilst driving on the M5. called an ambulance & spent the next 3 hours in Gloucester A&E. Carried on at 7am and met the early morning leavers in the service station! Eventually arrived in Nottingham at 11am Monday morning... The worst journey ever!!!

We got to East 3 at 7.30ish where we then proceeded to sit in the car until about 3.30. There were no stewards at all and the cars had to get up a hill!! In the end someone found a short cut out at the top of the hill. We left site around 4.15 and didn't get back to cheltenham until arounf 6.30 after the police directed us on to the back roads to Bristol to get on the M5, just in time to hit rush hour!!

we couldnt arrive till fri morning from bournemouth so we ended up parking in W23 (I think) v far away about 1 1/2 miles to the site. Arrived in pouring rain which was a nightmare.. but it took us 8hours to leave site in 2004 so we left monday morning 730am after 1HOURS sleep - was horrible but we left site in 20mins no cueing and then once i was tarmac i didnt care.. saw so many stuck cars. was chuffed we were so near road.. just chilled on way home and slept in laybye.. (cant spell) still feel sore now but very proud we made it through! Smug Person - Bournemouth
my husband and I met at glastas 5 years ago I've been going for 10 years he has been going longer and we got the hell out of there saturday afternoon, we left at 3.30 in doors by 7pm Essex and too lovely students W27 parking pushed out and that was then thank you girls you were stars too many people this year! think about that next year!!!

Woke up at 5,30am on Mon. Walked to West 23 and got in car about 6.30. Managed to get on to track by 6.33 (was amazed at how few people were leaving at that time) and was out on the road by 6.50. Moral of the story is when you get out of the gates, turn left, not right as there is less traffic going that way. 3 times longer in terms of miles but no traffic. Feel sorry for people in West 21 and 22 as the grass bits looked ruined on the Sunday when we packed everything up.

Re: Leaving Site Mon am
This was the most horiffic experience I have EVER had. Why didnt somebody think of letting people leaving site an area that was dry possibly concrete bus park to stand on with luggage and bags so they were not standing in 2 foot of mud and cold water for minimum of 3 hours. We were all tired, cold, wet, fatigued, stressed and this experience in bad weather could have been made easier with a facility to put bags and baggage down somewhere dry. MANY THANKS to our coach driver Ian from Alston.... he was such a friendly helpful driver unlike JERRY from Leicestershire who drover us down who was a nightmare... thats another story for another day. Enjoyed music but not weather conditions. Many thanks also to all volunteers that gave up their time for us.

You just have to have some planning and forethought. We took the majority of our stuff to the car on Sunday afternoon/evening, noticed that it was a little muddy up there so moved the car right up to the nearest exit and way from any muddy patches. Then we went back, watched the Who, socialised a bit at our camp and then left at 2ish, got out the car park in about 30 seconds and got home at 4ish. Simple.

Huge thanks to the 3 people who helped unstick a red mx-5 in E6 at 1am that had almost sank without trace!!!!!!!!
Big thanks to the tractor driver that shoved
us across the field, it was better than Stealth at Thorpe! (Not as good as metal road though....)
No thanks at all to whoever was in charge of putting up exit signs. I think that it caused much chaos, come on, what would it cost for a few bits of plastic, string and a black marker?
No-point in using National Express, we've tried them three times over the years and they've always been very, very poor.
