The full 2008 Glastonbury line-up!

Q is delighted to be able to exclusively reveal the full line-up for 2008’s Glastonbury Festival. Some names have, of course, were announced a while ago, including the three heavyweight headliners – Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve – who, respectively, will close the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights on the Pyramid Stage.

But there’s a whole host of talent, new and old, to be found across all stages and at all hours of the day and night. Amy Winehouse, Leonard Cohen, Editors, The Hold Steady, Seasick Steve, The Gossip, Neil Diamond and Goldfrapp will also grace the famous stage, whilst elsewhere rising stars such as Vampire Weekend, Glasvegas, The National and MGMT will take to the John Peel stage.

If you feel like something more chilled out, Sinead O’Connor, Newton Faulkner, Joan Baez and Suzanne Vega will appear on the Acoustic Stage, whilst the Jazz World tent will play host to a diverse line-up that includes reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, Estelle, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and blues hero Buddy Guy.

This, of course, is only just the tip of the iceberg. We’ve not even mentioned Pete Doherty, CSS or Dizzee Rascal. Or Kate Nash. Or The Pigeon Detectives. Or…

Sorry to say this but Glastonbury is dying! they are trying to rely on the name of the event to sell it and not the bands, it should be all about the music. At least you will not have the problem about people trying to jump the fence to get in, this year it will be the opposite with the festival goers bored by the lack of GOOD MUSIC! Jay Z should never be headlining, it is just plain wrong!

Posted by Graham Ross at 8:01 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

I think you people that are moaning are missing the point!!!!!!!

Posted by michaela at 8:09 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

Be the first time the fence is used to keep people in!!! Seriously - there are so many good smaller festy's this year, why would you bother spending over 150 quid for that drivel

Posted by Gary Baldi at 8:41 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

I really think festivals are getting less about music and more about record company to promoter back handers! You see some of the shit that is on at festivals this year and you think "Are they putting this show on for music fans?"

Over the last few years, music festivals have become "cool" and popular with the kids. It seems to me that the idea is that the promotors rip off as much money from them as possible. Increased ticket prices for sub standard acts, campsites open more days so that people spend more etc etc.

Posted by John Harper at 9:09 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

Your all missing the point of Glastonbury!! Its not about the biggest bands headlining, its about the vibe! glasto is by far the last real festival, huge variety of people, music and the best weekends i have ever had!!! If your unable to have a gud un then you really are to old!!!

Posted by Tess at 10:08 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

This will be my ninth Glasto, yes I have got tickets, but bugger me - this line-up is awful. Awful beyond recognition. Awful beyond excuse. It is, quite simply, insulting.

James Blunt? Crowded House? KT Tunstall? Kings of Leon? Kate Nash? Shakin Stevens? The Verve? Does the list of dull, Middle of the Road cack have any bearing on what anyone who isn't a housewife over the age of 40 is listening to right now?

It's like Prince William has organised a gig. Oh, hang on - he did that last year didn't he... with a VERY similar line-up.

In short, this is going to be THE MOST BORING DADROCK FESTIVAL of all time.

A note to the Eavis's and Meanfiddler - you know the thing about parents, right, listen - THEY DON'T GO TO FESTIVALS YOU FRICKIN' MORONS! THAT'S WHY YOU HAVEN'T SOLD ALL THE TICKETS! Geddit? Goodnight.

Too true - no 30 somethings - well, what goes around comes around! I can't imagine the vendors being happy selling half pints of pear cider..... Global Gathering here we come - complete with VIP pass.

Posted by Markey at 10:14 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

if you don't like the line up, don't go! simple as. stop fuggin moaning. i've been going for years, jumped the fence for years and started paying when it was the only way in. they never used to announce the line up before june years ago. it's not about being like V, which is truly awful, full of yobs and chavs out for day getting lashed on white lightening.

the uniqueness of the festival has been changed by the popularity of the event, people going now want, 'nice toilets' 'big middle of the road bands' 'safety'. mean fiddler and the police and the council have made the festival what it is now, a sanitized poor relation of what it used to be.

bring back the travellers, in fact give them the 50K unsold tix, bring back lost vagueness, bring back the electric atmoshphere of the 80's and early 90's. get shot of the idiots that are turning up now. let the free unlicenced parties carry on as years ago.

i think the line up is ace and look forward to seeing new acts and checking out the 'other' events that are what this festival is about. it isn't just about the main stages you bunch of moaning dolts. if you want 'big band singalongs' fuck off to V!

This will be the first time since 1994 that i have not been to Glastonbury which i hope gives an idea of what i think of the place. However after seeing the lineup and feel more than vindicated in my decision. Asmuch asi have the utmost respect for Michael Eavis it was the 30 somethings that made this festival and strangely enough have the money to make sure it sells out in hours. I fail to see how the "younger & hipper crowd" he is trying to attract are going to be to inspired by Shakin Stephens and Gilbert 'o' sullivan!!

Posted by Richard Bridgewater at 10:36 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

Well, I can safely say I won't be looking to get any tickets for this crap! My DAD likes more than half the acts performing this year, and he's friggin 60!!

What was going through the heads of the people who made this line up? They obviously weren't thinking about what the PEOPLE want to see. Remember the people? Those people who buy the tickets? Or in this years case, DON'T buy the tickets?

Posted by Marc at 10:52 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

I think there are some top up and coming bands on the line up! The mystery jets, and the young knvies are excitting young bands but also The Wombats and Duffy are getting bigger and bigger. Glastonbury also brings these bands more into the publics eye and can help get a band on it's way. It's going to be another great Glastonbury there are so many bands old and new I can't wait. Great value for money at just £150 a ticekt (plus remember so much of that money goes to great causes) and the only festival in the country that has everything in the one place. Well done Michael and Emily.

Posted by Jamesey at 11:01 AM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

Reading some of these comments make me so angry! Like the last few posts, all you commented on was the Pyramid stage, did you actually bother to sit down and look through the other stages??? When has Glastonbury ever been just about the one stage!?!

As for all this Jay-Z bollocks I can't understand it. The whole spirit of Glastonbury is to be open to new ideas, new experiences and new music, if you don't realise that then you're seriously missing the point! I may not be a Jay-Z fan but I'll be interested to see his performance.

And as for the tickets not selling out straight away, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'll be glad to spend my time with people who really want to be there. Because in my eyes that's what Glastonbury is about, not one stage or one act, but the atmosphere and the people (and possibly the brothers pear cider!)

omfg this year is the worst line up ever im one of the young ones they want to go but i wudnt step a foot near it. it wud rather listen to my music at home then hear people who do not appeal to anyone but wierdos

It's about more than a line-up (just as looking at it!).
Don't like it don't go.
Plenty more festivals to cater for all tastes, but not mine. I'll stick with Glasto.

What a bunch of whinging pathetic children you are. Stick to watching your wanky one-stage wonder festivals and leave Glassy to the grown ups. Spoilt brats.

Glastonbury isn't a festival in the same vein as Reading/Leeds, Downloag, Bestival, and many others I can't be bothered to mention right now, it's a Festival of the performing arts, with that goes comedy, Circus entertainment (not my bag either) and a lot of other stuff besides, if you are only going to Glastonbury for the music and that's all you see you do miss out on a good 60% of the festival.

It's a shame so many people see the music line up and get annoyed, unlike other festivals if there isn't any band on you want to see there are hundreds of other things you can do instead.

thank god people are now realising what a mess the festival is.in the past they even threatened KYLIE. thank god she was ill.what happened to proper acts that the festival was famous for bowie etc and the first original TYRANASOURUS REX.maybe Mr Eaves will welcome us back next year and i hope we all unite and tell him where to stick his great weekend.Ahappy 50yr old.xx

Who gives a square squirt of piss what noel gallagher thinks anyway? his greatly over-rated tune-stealing pop-group were utter shite when they played Glassy and now they can't even get a record deal let alone get invited to play a festival. The big-headed prick.

I think that everyone who has slagged off the glastonbury lineup and said the festival is dying have either never been before or must be able to lick their own colon because their head is so far up their own ass. Glastonbury is not about the lineup, its about the vibe and how much there is to do away from the main stages. I've been to glasto and not watched a famous band before. Who cares? Reading's lineup is brilliant this year but you get locked out of the festival at midnight. That is shit

Posted by gareth at 5:48 PM | 30/04/2008 | Report Abuse

I get that its about the vibe, glasto is glasto... But come on you even the die hard glasto fans have to admit that this line up is shockingly bad! Im off to Leeds this year... Great bands and a great atmosphear, Maybe if glasto gets its ass in gear and grabs some decent bands ill go next year. Im not going to slag off Jay Z or the Shakin stephens lol but what were they thinking?

(A 20 Year olds opinion, all opinions stated above are my own and ARE NOT the opinions of people in my age range) Thanks :D

To all you moaning people out there we absolutely love Glastonbury and to us and many others this festival aint just about music. We love a good band but Glastonbury is so much more than that. Fine if you whingers don't want to go. More room for us. Keep up the good work Michael and we forgive you for the thirty something comment!!!

I am one of those old gits Michael Eavis doesn't want at his festival any more. Last year was my 18th Glasto! And my last. I've seen it develop over the years, getting bigger and better in all respects. The line ups and atmosphere like no other festival on the planet.I think Eavis has lost the plot, relying on his daughter Emily to get the bands. I think she should stick with organizing The Kidz Field. Bodger and Badger are far better than Jay Z !

i live in new york though i am a brit. happily attended my one and only glasto in 2003(i was 54 last week).i had wanted to go for years but had felt uncomfortable going alone and was unable to drum up enthusiasm from pals most of whom were US based. the attraction of radiohead was finally irresistible. i scouted around and finally found an old school pal to come with me.it was simply awesome.a wonderful wonderful time.people music atmosphere.everything. i am a huge music fan and share influences with my 21 and 23 year old kids.i love kanye west, jay Z and akon.they love neil young, the stones, led zeppelin.we all love the editors ;aqualung;athlete; haven ;13 senses etc .every year since 03 ive tried and failed to buy gl tixs.i planned to try to attend again this year and bought radiohead tickets for earlier that week in london assuming they would be there if i could get in.when i started reading the newsletters and it became apparent the line up was going to have kings of leon as headliners i decided not to go.these are not worthy nor are the verve.i think Jay Z is a legit headliner though individual rappers do not have a history of being able to sell out major tours unless they tour as part of a group(eg Jay Z and Mary J - Kanye and Rhianna etc).check gross billings of tours in usa if you seek evidence of this point.
bottom line - it requires an effort to get to gl.while many of us want to participate in the event it still requires a top notch line up to extract 150 pounds a head especially in a very difficult financial conditions.young people will find the money if its for band they are crazy about ,but nobody will pony up for medicority and i agree with other writers that this does less to showcase new talent and more to evoke nostalgia.the economic climate means even a good line-up would find it hard to attract attendees.it needed to be especially good this year and instead the organisers took it for granted that due to recent overwhelming demand ,they could put anybody out there.a sad mistake.

I think that those of you who aren't happy with the line up should stop moaning on, most of you aren't even going anyway so what the hell is the point?!
I think Glasto is going to be wicked, live acts are great to watch no matter who they are! nuff said!!

Posted by Emma at 2:30 PM | 02/05/2008 | Report Abuse

It depends on what you think music is - if it's a commodity for 20 somethings to comsume along with TV, clothes and all that stuff, this is probably great. If you're interested in music for any other reason, stay away baby!! This is the biggest heap of shit ever concived by sentient beings. People buy a ticket to Glastonbury on the basis that they're going to get the best music available on the planet, and it's the only festival that assumes the right to reveal its line-up after the tickets have been sold. Sorry guys but you've got some serious thinking to do - this line up is just deeply sad, in every conciebvable way. No doubt it'll be a great party, but the music will have very little to do with it. 20-somethings, you're getting a seriously rough deal, this is piss-taking brought to new heights.

Posted by tom arthur at 3:00 PM | 02/05/2008 | Report Abuse

I HATE MOANERS. I don't know how anyone who has been to Glastonbury can say these things. Last year was the best line up i've ever had at Glasto and yes it was fantastic to see so many great acts but after i was really disappointed that i didnt get a chance to do all the other great things which Glasto offers- There is loads for families, a hundreds of great food places, shops, craft fields, green fields, people to meet, new bands to see and the general fun of the atmosphere there. People who slag it off just aren't Glastonbury and it is a real shame that G festival doesn't get the respect it deserves any more. I am going this year with a bunch of my friends and family and it'll probably be the best year ever because we have all been able to get tickets for once and appreciate Glastonbury for what it is. And who knows, maybe i'll like Jay- Z?

Posted by Lisa S at 8:07 PM | 05/05/2008 | Report Abuse

Aaaand i'd like to add to all the angry thirty-somethings out there who feel the need to slag Glasto off because Eavis's comment has made them feel old, when most of you started going when you were younger the line up was probably designed to fit your tastes. They can't just keep having the same people play over and over again until they die. So open your minds and listen to some new music you grumpy stuck-up old farts. MAN I AM ANGRY!!

Will FOLKS EVER UNDERSTAND,IF YOU DONT LIKE THE LINE UP ON ANY OF THE MAIN STAGES,LOOK PAST THE END OF YOYR NOSE AND TRY SOMETHING NEW,THE WHOLE SITE WILL BE AWASH WITH 24HR ENTERTAIN..GO ON LIVE DANGEROUSLY AND GET SOME SCROOMS AND PARK YOURSELF IN THE STONE CIRCLE,YOU MAY NOT WANT TOO LEAVE THERE ALL WEEKEND,BIT THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS YOU WILL EXPERIENCE WILL BE MIND BLOWING!!!!

Posted by Angela Bradley at 1:34 PM | 09/05/2008 | Report Abuse

too right! It's still going to be quality. Just because Coldplay, Radiohead, or Oasis aren't there don't shit your pants and have a go at the acts that are! Kings of Leon are the best band around at the moment, Jay Z is a bit controversial but at least it's something a bit different. If it doesn't work they won't book him again! There is so much to do at Glastonbury, if you don't like the pyramid line up go and see someone else.
it's like you want it to be crap! Grow up!

Posted by Leeroy at 1:52 PM | 12/05/2008 | Report Abuse

Let me offer a balanced summary of the opinion in these postings......
1. Admit mistakes and move on - Glasto have made a couple of mistakes (not the best bill ever and offending older regular glasto goers with some daft comments)
2. Music Taste - People have different tastes in music - this doesnt mean that others tastes are crap they are just different to yours.
3. Age matters (or does it)? - If you are 50 and still going to festivals great. Beats playing golf or whatever are considered acceptable 50 year old pursuits (to a 20 year old). If you are 20 then try to accept that the world was not created 5 years ago and maybe when your dad/mum was 20 once and loved music and you never know you might still love music (and freedom) when you are 50.
4. Glasto Vibe - those who love glasto tend to love it for the whole vibe not just the Pyramid. Those who want big name bands in a field have plenty of other 'festivals' to choose from.
6. Peace people!!

Posted by Dave B at 3:31 PM | 14/05/2008 | Report Abuse

Im getting really fed up of hearing people moan about the line-up. I agree that there arent as many "big bands" high up on the Pyramid as previous years but so what? There are thousands of acts across an uncountable numbers of stages over the course of 5 days - i for one can already see times when theres 3 or 4 bands on i want to see that will clash and thats without making time to explore the circus/cabaret/greenfields/shangri la/trash city - its not all about the pyramid, show me another festival in the world that has the variety Glastonbury does! If you really cant see that many bands you want to see on the line-up then perhaps you need to ask yourself if your musical taste is as broad as you think it is. If you want to see your Oasis and Coldplays then stick with V, a big gig in a field, if you want to go to a performing arts festival then i guess ill see you at Worthy Farm! And just for the record, yep there are lots of bands MY dad wants to see too - both of my parents are going too and have done the past couple of years - thats the beauty of Glastonbury, theres something for everyone, unless your narrow-minded and difficult to please - quite often, the highlight of your weekend is finding a band youve never heard of on a tiny stage and being totally inspired by them!

Posted by Kate at 5:58 PM | 21/05/2008 | Report Abuse

I've got to say that is the worst line-up i have ever seen.. Glastonbury is a rock 'n' roll festival not rap!! I am glad i'm not going this year.. sort it out!!

Posted by Anonymous at 9:23 PM | 21/05/2008 | Report Abuse

"Glastonbury is a rock 'n' roll festival not rap" Erm, since when? rap acts have always played the festival, as has pretty much every other muscial genre, as well as other branches of performing arts (hence the festival's name) - why has it never been a problem for anyone before yet all of the sudden people feel threatened because a rapper is headlining?

"I am glad i'm not going this year" Im afraid to say, Im glad youre not going too - perhaps this year will be full of people who actually want to be there, rather than people who are there because its the 'place to be seen' this year - people who have open minds rather than jumping on the 'lets slag off Glastonbury because the Sun/NME etc etc have told us we should' bandwagon.

I have to wonder why all the people coming on here to make negative comments about the Festival are bothering - if its not your cup of tea, fair enough, dont you have better things to be doing than criticising a festival that you're not even going to?!

Posted by Nat at 7:46 PM | 01/06/2008 | Report Abuse

I find it displays an enormous amount of ignorance to judge a festival like Glastonbury purely on the acts appearing on the main stage, given these actually represent just a miniscule proportion of the entertainment that is on offer on nearly 50 stages and over 4 whole days.

In many ways I always hope that there are very few big names that I want to see on the line up simply because that automatically releases me to wander from venue to venue and embark on a magical, mystical journey of discovery. I haven’t seen a single Pyramid Stage headliner in any of my last 5 visits to Worthy Farm and in all probability that is unlikely to change this year. But I would challenge anybody to suggest that I don’t squeeze every last drop from my Glastonbury experience.

To those who are blinkered into believing that all festivals should be predominantly headlined by Radiohead, Coldplay & a succession of this year’s NME favourite white indieboy guitar bands then by all means enjoy your V’s and your Readings where there is nothing to do other than sitting in front of the main stage and drink overpriced lager all day. But don’t go drawing comparisons with Glastonbury because it is still a very different animal indeed and has so much more to offer to anybody who is prepared to remove their blinkers for long enough to fully embrace the experience.
