A Shaky start ...

Shakin' Stevens was Saturday's novelty opening act with a sizeable sunbaked crowd gathered at the Pyramid Stage.

The old rocker spun out a few of his eighties hits to keep the crowd entertained such as This Ole House and Oh Julie. But much to the chagrin of the punter in the audience carrying a green door, he failed to play one of his best known songs.

And the former chart-topping star may have misjudged the situation a little when he announced: "We're going to do a few tracks from the new album."

Surely this would have been an opportunity to wheel out the entire back catalogue of hits rather than using it as a showcase for new songs?

I agree totally that Shaky should have stuck with familiar favourites, which young and old alike know. It worked for Shirley Bassey last year, she went down a storm.

I watched his performance and was bitterly disappointed. His new material was third rate backstreet pub style ROCK without ROLL. We loved Shaky in the 80's as he dared to be different by singing 50's style music. I saw him live in 1981 and he was brilliant his Glastonbury performance was embarrassing and bland. Stick to what you do best Shaky, Rock 'n' Roll!

I agree - he was a great disappointment. It seems stagerringly arrogant or maybe just naive for him to believe that his appearance at Glastonbury was due to his ongoing attraction as a performer. It wasn't - he was there for kitsch reminiscence only and not giving the crowd what they wanted was a big mistake.

I have been a fan of Shaky's since 1979 and love his music.I really want Shaky back in the charts but because of his arrogance or lack of judgement he has let a real opportunity slip through his hands.New materials ok to plug to die hard fans who attend your concerts but the old favourites which took Shaky to the top should have been showcased at Glastonbury. If Shaky would have kept to the hits he would have really rocked Glastonbury

well, i have to sort of agree in both ways! yes shaky should have stuck to what we remember him as in the 80's, but have you heard his new album? i have mixed feelings, cos i am a total "shaker", love him if he drooled on stage, but his new tunes are different, and, he had to hit glastonbury as a trendy rocker?
i loved him, worth being smelly for the weekend! ROCK ON SHAKY!

agree, we all want to be back with shaky, he was a star in the 80's, and badkids1366, he made me drool! but he had to sing what non shakers would know to get the crowd going, as an opener, as the crowd are now a generation on from us. but shaky can always open my green door, good comments, badkids x
