Arrivals at Glastonbury were hit by delays after a scrapyard fire near the site caused one of the main roads to be closed.
Homes were evacuated and two people treated in hospital after gas bottles exploded in the village of Pylle on Thursday morning.
The A37 road – one of the main approaches to Glastonbury Festival - was expected to be closed for around five hours and one of the entrances was suspended due to the incident which needed 16 fire crews to tackle the blaze.
Diversions meant visitors arriving by car were diverted to other roads, causing traffic to back up, and buses had difficulties coping with the numbers of people who had arrived by rail at the nearest station and needed connections.
