| Queen's Head, Thursday Live Review |
The sun is out, the masses are already partying and The Queen’s Head stage – curated by your very own Q Mag – is open for business. Kicking off the four-day experience is Leeds’s Pete Greenwood and his Bert Jansch-esque folk songsmithery. Pete’s clearly quaking, but with a rammed and cheering tent, it’s a sparkling start.
The weather continues to blaze, and so do spiky Aussie post-popsters Sparkadia and the hugely popular electro-rocking Dead Kids. But even better is yet to come: Glasvegas (pictured)turn the tent into an atmospheric deathrock ’n’ roll event, with heroic bounce-along anthems like Geraldine. The band are amazed; their album isn’t out until September but the crowd know every single word.
Santogold just make their slot after a long slog to get on site, but whip up a funky fever with the eager masses bumping together to dirty dub and scratchy pop from the Day-Glo soul of frontwoman Santi White. The knock-kneed chirpiness of One Night Only is an unexpected highlight for many, but the night belongs to Róisín Murphy moving like a cat in her slinky leathers.
Despite technical quirks and some riffing with Spike Milligan poetry (true story!), the funkadelic diva’s specially stripped-down set brings the tent to its knees with a rocked-out oldie, Baby Blue. Job done. Now, where do we sign up for the SingStar karaoke action…?

Its a bit thin, Months I've been waiting to hear what Q thinks of the Dead kids and today I get five words. Thats disapointing.
Leaves me feeling sorry for Glasvegas to think the crowds has all the words down to the tunes 2 months before the album release.
Either people are pirating on mass or thier over exposed hurm let me think which.
Its a bit light on the reviewing side isn't it. No set lists, no stage antics, a brief mention of two songs. for god sake some one put in a Video Camera or 2.

For me, the highlight of Thursday night came in the form of the beautiful, poetic, spine-tingling beat-boxing genius MC Xander. (In the Chai Walla tent). It was such a shame that someone of such awesome talent and skill was relegated to a lesser-known venue and has not been mentioned in any of the Glastonbury write-ups (before or after). It's not very often that a new artist makes me prick my ears to attention and captivates my interest, but MC Xander seriously warrents some coverage, please, folks, go and see his Myspace page and aquaint yourselves to this wonderfully talented artist!
