Shhh, it's a silent gig!

It’s normally end to end noise but Glastonbury will play host to an entirely silent stage for the first time this year.

Inspired by last year’s silent disco, organisers have decided to expand the idea with an entire stage of speaker-free mayhem. Artists and audience will all pop on sets of headphones for full live performances at the venue which will be in the Dance Village section of the site. It will also feature DJs and spoken word acts throughout the night.

The Dance Village, which is now in its third year and contains eight stages, will be celebrating 20 years since the ‘summer of love’ which heralded the arrival of acid house with a line-up which features some of the protagonists who helped to popularise the sound including Nicky Holloway and Trevor Fung. Other house exponents such as Dave Seaman, X-Press 2, The Orb’s Dr Alex Patterson and Detroit legend Derrick May will also perform sets.

Elsewhere there will be a new Salsa Tent which offers much more than its name suggests. There will be classes and performances in Bollywood-style moves, can-can and tap as well as salsa.

Organisers also promise a treat for the ears and eyes with 360-degree projections inside the Igloo Tent, plus audio-visual performances from Addictive TV, Hexstatic and DJ Yoda’s Magic Cinema.
