| ZZZZs are good |
|

The South East corner of Worthy Farm has always been a mind-bending outpost after dark. Over the years it has acted as the Experimental Music Field and the infamous Travellers’ Field (a paradise for the wandering unwashed).
For the last decade, it was the domain of burlesque freakshow Lost Vagueness, where muddy punters would don ballgowns, gamble and drink spirits late into the night. This year, however, the field has been given a complete revamp, transforming it into the nocturnal otherworld of Shangri-La.
Curated by a shadowy group called The Rebel Alliance – “the UK’s finest underground party culture of artistic radicals, ZZZZs are good urban bohemians and experimental artists,” according to Clare Woodcock from the festival – the area promises to recreate the anarchic spirit established by previous tenants.“It’s going to have an edge,” says Woodcock, some might say slightly ominously.
“It’ll be a whole new interactive world to discover, with all the elements of surprise you’ve come to expect – but enhanced by a whole new level of delight. A world of optimism, exoticism and escapism.”
Among Shangri-La’s attractions will be Slumbarave – a dance haven full of giant beds and nightgowns where “anything could happen”, apparently – a First-Class Lounge and an exclusive Velvet-Tipped Jacuzzi Lounge. You can also hoe down relentlessly at the Barn Stage, ponder “Latin-meets-Hackney vibes” in Shackney, and gaze agog at circus acts in Club Dada or the freakshow in The Boardwalk.
There is also a pub, a secret beer garden, Phil’s Diner and The Gramophon Salon, where Japanese waiters in kimonos “serve you records instead of tea”. It’s up to you whether you drink or listen.
Be warned: you can go in, but you might not come out.

So, whats the difference between this and Lost Vageuness then? I thought it was supposed to be a 'brand new area?' Lost vagueness already had, the secret garden (dickies bar)the slumbarave (the laudrettas) the velevet tipped jacuzzilounge (the velvet tipped saloon/chapel) phils diner (the delux diner) the gramaphon salon (always been there)club dada (the casino)...so in effect, its a snickers bar not a marathan....really cutting edge glasto, well done...not

ps, "curated by the uk's finest group of underground party culture of artistic radicals" !!! Thats the best one yet, its curated by people whos idea of travelling is three months in shri lanka each year! And, oh yeah, they have four houses between the two of them, thats sooo rad! Even the name is not original! Look at last years official glastonbury festival programme, 'lost vagueness, the shangri-la' of the festival'....Not an original idea in their heads I am afraid....why do you think glasto didnt sell out this year?? Hmmm....its a no brainer really as the LV area is the only thing thats missing....he he he

Anyone who had any real involvement in that field will know that the people who actually did the work and drove much of the creative side of it are now free to reap the rewards of their years of effort without the restrictive tyranny of its previous 'director'. It's the same people, but now they have the opportunity to expand and develop their ideas unfettered by LV's restrictions. Shangri-La was not filled with brand new stuff but if you look at it a bit more deeply you'll see that although it was many of the same people they were doing different and interesting new things. That was the whole point. Many of the people there have worked in those fields most of their lives and are entitled to a bit of respect for that. It's also worth noting that a 'Dave the Rave' played a blinding Saturday night set in The Jacuzzi Lounge to the delight of a tent full of people. This could never have happened in the days of LV.
